For the last couple of months, I have been trying to improve my swimming. I hired a coach, and I do my daily exercises religiously.
However, the progress is slow. Too slow for my goal-driven ego.
At every session I have those moments of total despair, when nothing works, my body feels like being disconnected from my brain, and I cannot follow even the most straightforward instructions.
While those moments are short, they made me think.
This is exactly how my clients must feel when I ask them to squat with the straight back or to engage the glutes.
As a coach, I know my movements throughout. I could probably swing the cow and military press the chicken while juggling the 16kg kettlebell over my head. It’s are my bread and butter.
However, put me in the water and asked to perform a high elbow catch while performing 2-bit kick… And I’m not that quick anymore. It’s even painful.
This is what I need. A little bit of humbling cannot hurt anybody.
Moreover, this makes me more patient and understanding with my clients.
