It’s a mild, spring-like weather. Rain just stopped, running surface is soft and muddy. The horn sounded and off we went.
I’ve decided to stay with my friend Megan, an excellent runner, for as long as I can.
First 2km were fantastic, I’ve even let myself to believe that it would be my best run ever, fast and flawless.
It was completely opposite. I’ve quickly realised that the tempo was far too fast. My peacemaker was simply too strong. But it was too late for me.
From 3km I’ve struggled all the way to the finish line, cursing and looking for the excuses to quit. I’ve even had to walk a bit, just to compose myself after a spectacular fall.
I’ve finished the race, eventually, but much slower than I’ve expected.
After the race, my ego-driven side was a little bit disappointed. I wanted to be fast, finishing in the top. But my thinking side was happy. It was exactly what I needed. I was not here for a winning. In fact, there is a very slim chance that I will ever win a race. I was here for an experience, to challenge myself, to have fun, to meet my friends, to enjoy myself, and to have a cracking Saturday morning!
Thank you Fox Trial Winter Running Series for those superb events. You have made this cold Scottish winter bearable. Also thanks to all fellow runners. You’ve made those runs special! And of course, thank you to my Fitness Soul Crew. You guys rock! Always!

I’m not a fast runner. I’m even surprised that I’ve called myself a runner! But I like taking things seriously, and I’m on the mission. :)
